ஏன்னா, சட்டம் ஒழுங்கு கெட்டுப் போகக்கூடாது பாரு!

Hon’ble Chief Minister, Puratchi Thalaivi, Thanga Tharagai, Madam Dr. Amma அவர்கள் (read Ms.Jayalalithaa) did something astounding yesterday. She actually met the press! Yes, she did. Check the newspapers if it sounds incredible. We all remember a beaming Jayalalithaa promising to meet the press every week when she took office. But of course, that promise went out the window much like her popular promise to end the power cuts within months if she was voted to power.

Given her strong dislike for the media (excluding Jaya TV)  it’s indeed astounding that she actually decided to meet the press over anything.  And it is an honour for Kamal that the issue in question is the Viswaroopam controversy. For those who missed the show (not the movie silly,  JJ’s press meet) here are the links.

But you needn’t bother watching her do a Ramana-Vijayakanth with her statistics, let me give you her take-home message; Do you want your demands to be taken seriously by the Government? Easy, threaten wide spread violence and watch the magic, your demands will be accepted in no time! அட! So simple! நம்ம 2 minute நூடுல்ஸ் மாதிரி!

Yup, that’s the message she gave out. She repeatedly made the point that she banned Vishwaroopam ONLY because the release of the movie threatened to derail peace and harmony in the State with the ”very real” possibility of the Muslim outfits’ protests turning violent.

Now, this raises a few simple, elementary (My dear Watson) questions in me (and hopefully in a few others too):

1) There’s no denying that the threat of the protests turning violent was ”very real”. Does that justify banning the movie?

2) So if any person/body/party/outfit/monkey/donkey threatens the public with widespread violence, the Jayalalithaa government would immediately give in to their demands and do whatever they want her to do? There’s no reasoning/analysis of the Rights and Wrongs of the issue; the violent party automatically gets things done, is that how it works then?

அட இது தெரியாம நம்ம கூடங்குளம் உதயக்குமார் வெகு நாளா அமைதியாவில்ல போராடிக்கிட்டு இருக்காரு!

லூசுப் பைய!  அம்மாவுக்கு அமைதி புடிக்காது பாஸு! அதனால தான் கூடங்குளத்த மூடாம, உங்கள 144 போட்டு வூட்டுக்குல்லையே வெச்சிருக்காங்க! பத்தாக்குறைக்கு ரெண்டு மூணு உசுர வேற சுட்டுக் கொல்ல வேண்டியதா போச்சு! அம்மா மேல தப்பு இல்ல பாஸு, உங்க தப்பு தான். உங்களைய யாரு பெரிய அகிம்சாவாதி மாதிரி அமைதியா அரவழில போராடச் சொன்னது? பெரிய காந்தி – புத்தர் கலவை நம்ம உதயக்குமாரு! யோவ், நீயும் ஒழுங்கா ரெண்டு பெட்ரோல் குண்டு கைல வெச்சுகிட்டு ”வெட்டுவேன், குத்துவேன், அடிப்பேன், உதைப்பேன்” ன்னு சொல்லிருந்த, அம்மா முதல் வேலையா குடங்குளத்தையும் மூடி, நம்ம 15 நாள்- நாராயணசாமியையும் அந்தமானுக்கு நாடு கடத்திருப்பாங்க!

அட, அதை விட அட்டகாசமான ஐடியா ஒண்ணு நம்ம கைவசம் இருக்கு!
” அணு உலை எங்கள் கிரித்துவ மத நம்பிக்கைகளுக்கு எதிரானது. அணு உலைல வர்ற மின்சாரத்த வெச்சு காத்தாடி ஓட்டவே கூடதுன்னு பைபிள்ல சொல்லி இருக்கு. இவ்வளவு என், கிருத்துவர்கள் Koffee with Anu கூடப் பார்ப்பதில்லை. இப்படி இருக்கும் பொது, கிருத்துவர்கள் அதிகம் வாழும் கூடங்குளம் பகுதியில் அணு உலை நிறுவுவது எங்கள் மத உணர்வுகளை கொச்சைப்படுத்தி, புண்படுத்தி, பாழ்படுத்தி, குப்புறப்படுத்துது. அதனால் கூடங்குளத்தை உண்டானடியாக மூடி, நாராயணசாமிக்கு பைபிள்லை நூறு தடவை  ( 15 நாட்களுக்குள் ) எழுதி வருமாறு imposition விதிக்க வேண்டி, சட்டபூர்வமான கண்ணியமான முறையில் மனு கொடுக்கிறோம். இந்த மனு ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளப்படவில்லை என்றால், சட்டப்பூர்வமான  கண்ணியமான முறையில் பெட்ரோல் குண்டு வீசி, வன்முறையில் ஈடுபடுவோம் ” அப்படின்னு ஒரு அறிக்கை, ஒரே ஒரு அறிக்கை விட்டிருந்தீங்கன்னா முதல் நாளே உங்க போராட்டம் வெற்றி அடைந்திருக்கும்.  ஏன்னா, சட்டம் ஒழுங்கு கெட்டுப் போகக்கூடாது பாரு!

அதை விட்டுபுட்டு, அணு உலை – அறிவியல் – அப்துல் கலாம் – போபால் – கதிர்வீச்சு – கீச்சான் வந்தாச்சுன்னு பேசிகிட்டு அமைதியா கடல்ல இறங்கி போராட்டம் பண்ணா, ஹெலிகாப்ட்டர விட்டு வெரட்டாம என்ன பண்ண?

3) Madam Jaya says her ”first priority is maintaining law and order”. அப்போ, safeguarding Freedom of Speech எத்தனாவது priorityன்னு கொஞ்சம் பாத்து சொன்னா தேவல. Is not the Government equally duty bound to ensure an individual’s Freedom to Free Speech and Expression just as it is to ensure Law and Order in the State? Maybe the Constitution guarantees a Nuclear Power Station in every village but doesn’t as strongly guarantee the Right to Free Speech?

Just to ensure Peace in the State, will the government absolve itself of all of its other duties and responsibilities? “அய்அய்யோ! அடிச்சுப் புடுவாங்கப்பா! அதனால நீ வாய மூடிக்கோ, போத்திகிட்டு (பொத்திக்கிட்டு) தூங்கிக்கோ” ன்னு கமல் ஹாசனிடம் சொல்வதற்கு இந்த அரசுக்கு என்ன உரிமை இருக்கிறது?

என் பேச்சுரிமையைக் கூட உறுதி செய்து தரத் துப்பில்லை என்றால், எதற்கு இந்த அரசு? பதவி விலக வேண்டியதுதானே!

4) If any Tom, Dick and Harry can force any State Government to ban any film at any point of time for any reason, why then does this country have a Censor Board? Why do filmmakers have to take all the trouble to get their movies Censor Certified if that does not ensure the screening of the film anyway?

Madam Jayalalithaa, I request you to grab hold of this opportunity to (what else) write a letter to the Prime Minister and ask him to abolish the Central Censor Board once and for all.

Instead, after every movie is made, the filmmaker can be asked to screen the movie to Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, Atheist, members from every caste, sub-caste, every linguistic group, every State citizen, Women’s groups, Men’s groups, LGBT groups, every political party (inlcuding Actor T.Rajendran’s party), a representative from every profession and finally ALL State Governments to see if the film conforms to all their sentiments/beliefs and if they too believe that Mani Ratnam should stop casting Aiswarya Rai in any more of his movies. Once they have recorded all their opposition/suggestions, the director can then go back and re-shoot the movie to suit all parties and come back with a new movie in 2 years by which time the beliefs of these parties would have changed and they’d have fresh new objections. Splendid!
